Don’t Leave Reality Without …
June 29, 2008 Photography No Comments
I have recently completed Digital Photography II, which covered night photography, panoramas, and HDR (high dynamic range) among other things. For the final project, I have created a poster titled “Don’t Leave Reality Without …”
The poster weighs in at 26″ x 36″ at 300 dpi. The link at the left takes you to a reasonable size image, if you hit the “download” button on that page, you’ll get the whole big monster image.
The Story
You never know when you might step through an armoir, fall into an endless pit, or find out that your planet is scheduled for destruction for an interplanetary highway. There are certain items that you should never be without when traveling to these realities that are not the one you are accustomed to. First thing, make sure you have your pants. There is nothing more embarrassing then showing up in an alternate reality only to find that the first thing you need to do is cover up your nether-regions.
The next problem with alternate realities is that you may end up in a light-less chasm, underwater or as a stowaway on a space ship. Just in case you encounter something that wants to eat you, be sure to keep your ring of protection against evil on and your magical sword by your side. If you don’t know how to use a sword, or the evil is too great, you may benefit from a periapt of health and a healing potion . Some other handy objects include immovable balls, a teardrop from a local legend, and a figurine of a frog prince .

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
April 12, 2008 Life No CommentsI generally don’t feel compelled to write about the games I play, but Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors has been demanding that I share my thoughts with the world since I first put the disk into my Wii.
The reason is that is fantastically fun to play, but it feels like it could have been so much better. The developers choose to use ONLY the wii-mote and not use the nun-chuck. This makes moving your character around incredibly awkward, but you don’t actually need to do that except when you are in town. When you go on a dungeon crawl, you are playing a game on rails. You control when you move forward, in most dungeons, and it takes you along a linear path with a couple of forks in the road which are handled by clicking on an arrow.
So, for the folks looking for a game with explorer dynamics, look somewhere else. If you are looking for a game that will get you on your feet swinging your wii-mote-sword wildly, then take a serious look at this game.
Stuff People Put in Trees
April 12, 2008 Photography No CommentsI took a course on digital photography this last semester at NEU. As a final project, I decided to take pictures of the things that people put in trees. This was inspired by these fascinating little round mirrors that our neighbor put into her tree.
Each picture tells a story of a tree and someone’s interaction with it. Many of them are taken at Francis William Bird Park where people plant trees in someone’s memorial, or carve their current sweetheart into the bark of one big tree. Others were taken around where I work or on the way to work.

February 23, 2008 Life No CommentsI’ve created a new album for pictures taken this winter. The Winter 2008 Album features a composite image with me, Ray, Sam and Aran all in one picture! It’s got a cleaned up version of our one wedding picture in Fort Collins. It’s also got Aran with my face stuck on her head!
